The scenario

Microsoft's Building 121 cluster on the Redmond campus runs forty conference rooms that were last equipped in 2019. The hardware still switches on. What it no longer does is keep up with how the cluster actually meets — almost every meeting now has someone joining from outside the room, and the 2019 build was designed for a table full of people with a laptop passed between them. Cameras frame a wide empty rectangle. Microphones favour whoever sits nearest. Remote attendees spend meetings asking people to repeat themselves. The Center of Innovation has since published a refreshed room standard: Teams Rooms on Windows in the thirty-two standard rooms, Surface Hub 3 in the eight collaboration rooms, Logitech endpoints, Crestron scheduling panels at every door, and a rule that no room is handed over without a certification record. A $1.5M capital request for the cluster was approved on the strength of that standard. Three suppliers deliver it between them, and the rooms stay in service throughout — the install runs in waves, at weekends and in the two hours before the floor fills up, because forty rooms cannot go dark on a campus that books them solid. You are running it from home. There is no on-site presence in this program's budget and no week where you walk the floor. Every room you accept will be accepted on someone else's photograph, someone else's certification record, and someone else's word that the display came up. Your charge: make "the room works" mean the same thing to the installer who signs it off, the vendor who supplied it, and the person who walks in at nine the next morning.

What you'll do as the project manager

• →Refresh all 40 conference rooms in the Building 121 cluster within the $1.5M capital baseline
• →Deploy Teams Rooms on Windows in 32 standard rooms and Surface Hub 3 in 8 collaboration rooms
• →Complete the rolling install in 24 weeks with no room out of service more than 3 consecutive business days
• →Hold a 90% or better room-health pass rate in Teams Admin Center across 30 consecutive days post-handover
• →Train at least 80% of floor admins and named meeting owners before their own floor's install wave
